According to local lore, planting of pear trees known today as Tepka was ordered by Mary Therese to prevent hunger. Farmers who refused were to be beaten (to beat = tepsti). And the pear was hence known as Tepka.
Today, we use these pears to make an excellent jam with Habanero chocolate chili peppers, which leave their gently hot feeling in your mouths only when you stop eating.
It goes amazingly well in wine tastings when paired with aged cheeses and smoked meats, or it can be spread on a simple piece of bread or a pancake.
